Asl Lanciano Vasto Chieti receives €9.5 million for hospital digitalization
The Asl Lanciano Vasto Chieti health authority has been allocated approximately €9.5 million from Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr) to digitize medical services across hospitals in Chieti, Lanciano, and Vasto. The funds are divided equally, with roughly €3.16 million designated for each facility to upgrade IT systems and clinical pathways.
Key initiatives include the creation of a digital archive for radiological images and reports to facilitate regional sharing, the digitalization of specialized medical records—specifically for diabetes and endoscopy—and the modernization of transfusion services and donor networks. The project also introduces digital pathology for anatomical studies.
Separately, the director general of Asl Lanciano Vasto Chieti, Mauro Palmieri, addressed concerns regarding the gastroenterology department at the Renzetti hospital in Lanciano. He clarified that recent organizational restructuring is intended to increase efficiency and meet national waiting list standards rather than reduce services. Palmieri announced that staffing is being strengthened, with new specialists already assigned and further recruitment underway to support increased patient care and surgical activities.
