ASL Lecce Hyperbaric Medicine Center marks first year with 2,000 sessions
The Hyperbaric Medicine Center of ASL Lecce, operating from the Vito Fazzi Hospital since 9 June 2025, completed its first year with 1,973 hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions, 602 treatments in the chamber and 100 patients under care. The service recorded 120 specialist visits and treated a range of conditions including diabetic foot, chronic ulcers, osteomyelitis, carbon‑monoxide poisoning, sudden hearing loss, traumatic injuries and radiotherapy complications.
The center, part of the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, works closely with the Emergency Department and a multidisciplinary network of vascular surgery, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, infectious diseases, diabetology, ENT and intensive care units. Director General Gianluca Capochiani said the local availability of the service reduces patient travel, speeds up treatment, shortens hospital stays and cuts overall healthcare costs for the Salento region.
