Asmita Dey honored in Tripura for Commonwealth Games judo gold
The Tripura state government held a grand felicitation ceremony in Agartala for judoka Asmita Dey following her historic gold medal win at the Commonwealth Games. Dey became the first Indian judoka to secure a gold medal at the event, clinching the women’s -48kg title after defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach in a golden score contest.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Manik Saha presented Dey with a cheque for Rs 10 lakh and announced the allotment of land in Agartala for her to build a house. The Chief Minister praised her journey from a village in South Tripura to the international podium, noting her success as an inspiration for the state's youth. He also encouraged her to maintain focus and discipline in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games.
Dey attributed her success to hard work, consistency, and discipline. She noted that while her immediate goal of winning a medal has been fulfilled, she remains focused on future targets.
