Asmita Dey Wins India’s First Commonwealth Games Judo Gold, Honored by Tripura CM

Asmita Dey, a 23‑year‑old judoka from Belonia in Tripura, captured the women’s 48 kg gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach in a golden‑score finish. Her victory marked India’s first ever gold medal in judo at the Games.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met Dey at Tripura Bhawan in New Delhi, congratulating her on the historic achievement.
