ASML denies US claims of EUV export to China as Chinese startup launches 2D chip pilot line

Dutch lithography leader ASML told US officials that none of its 340 extreme‑ultraviolet (EUV) machines – the only equipment capable of producing the most advanced chips – have been sent to China. The company said it monitors the location of each machine and that only it can transport the highly sensitive devices, rejecting concerns that a unit might have reached Chinese manufacturers such as SMIC or Huawei.

At the same time, a Shanghai startup, Yuanjiwei, announced the world’s first 8‑inch pilot production line for two‑dimensional (2D) semiconductor chips. The line aims to fabricate chips without relying on EUV lithography, using atom‑thin materials that could overcome scaling limits of silicon and reduce power leakage. The move is presented as an alternative path for China’s chip industry amid long‑standing US export restrictions on EUV tools.
