ASML reports lack of European customers for advanced machinery
ASML, a leading global supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, is currently facing a lack of customers within Europe. Frank Heemskerk, Vice President of ASML, stated that the company is not currently selling its machines in Europe due to insufficient investment in new semiconductor fabrication plants on the continent.
While Europe is attempting to reduce its dependence on foreign semiconductor producers through multi-billion euro investments, these efforts have not yet translated into the production of the most advanced integrated circuits.
Several major projects are underway in the region, including Intel’s €5 billion Fab 34 plant in Ireland and the €15 billion ESMC facility in Dresden, a joint venture between TSMC, Bosch, Infineon, and NXP. Additionally, Infineon is developing its Smart Power Fab in Dresden, and GlobalFoundries is expanding its Fab 1 production capabilities.
