ASML reports zero lithography machine sales in Europe for 2026
ASML, the Dutch leader in semiconductor lithography equipment, reported that it has sold zero machines to European producers in 2026. Frank Heemskerk, ASML’s Executive Vice President of Public Affairs, attributed this lack of regional sales to a deficit in semiconductor fabrication plant investments within Europe.
Data from the first half of 2026 shows that ASML's revenue share in Europe has dropped to 0%, a significant decline from previous years. In contrast, the company's sales are heavily concentrated in Asia and the United States. In the second quarter of 2026, South Korea accounted for 43% of system sales, followed by Taiwan at 30%, China at 14%, the United States at 9%, and Japan at 4%.
This trend highlights a gap between the European Union's goal of increasing semiconductor sovereignty and the actual deployment of manufacturing capacity. While the EU is working on initiatives like the Chips Act 2.0 to stimulate demand, the majority of high-end chip production and equipment demand remains centered in East Asia and the U.S.
