ASOEM denounces worker dismissal in Sauce Viejo as union persecution

The Association of Municipal Workers and Employees (ASOEM) has denounced the dismissal of a municipal worker in Sauce Viejo, Argentina, labeling the move as part of a pattern of “persecution” by Mayor Mario Papaleo.

The dismissed employee had been working under a non-permanent contract since 2024. ASOEM argued that the precarious nature of such employment should not be used as a “mechanism for disciplining” workers or forcing them to act out of fear. The union stated that this incident is not an isolated event, claiming that municipal workers in the area have faced months of harassment, sanctions, transfers, and actions that undermine their labor and union rights.

ASOEM further expressed concern that these actions exceed simple labor disputes, suggesting they impact the democratic functioning of the local institution and threaten the principles of democratic coexistence.
