Asokwa trader killed by forklift following alleged brake failure

A roadside trader identified as Jennifer was killed on Monday, September 21, 2026, after being struck by a heavy-duty forklift at the Brewery Traffic Light in Asokwa, Kumasi.

Eyewitnesses report that the forklift, traveling from Asokwa toward Atonsu, experienced a brake failure as it approached the intersection. The driver allegedly shouted that the brakes had failed while struggling to control the machine. While another trader, Ama Sefa, managed to escape the path of the vehicle, Jennifer was struck and killed at the scene.

The Asokwa Divisional Police Command arrived to manage the crowd and traffic. The forklift has been impounded for investigation, and police are currently pursuing the driver, who reportedly fled the scene following the accident. The deceased's body has been moved to a mortuary for autopsy.
