Asp di Catania launches initiatives for World Breastfeeding Week
The Asp di Catania is participating in World Breastfeeding Week, running from October 1 to 7, 2026. This international initiative is promoted by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action and supported by organizations including UNICEF, the WHO, and the Italian Ministry of Health.
Across 35 family counseling centers (Consultori familiari) in the Catania province, various activities are being held to support new mothers and infants. These include open days, workshops, individual and group consultations, and educational meetings. In Vizzini, sessions focus on the role of support networks and the impact of medications and alcohol on breastfeeding.
In Acireale, the local family counseling center has inaugurated a photographic exhibition titled ‘Sguardi e carezze: storie di un legame. L’allattamento nel nostro territorio’. The exhibition features over 50 photographs documenting the daily realities of breastfeeding, including skin-to-skin contact, hospital experiences, and the challenges faced by families. The display aims to present a realistic view of motherhood beyond idealized imagery.
