ASP di Enna faces union protest over hospital meal distribution
Labor unions CGIL-FP, UIL-FPL, NURSIND, and NURSING-UP have formally contested new meal distribution protocols at the ASP di Enna hospitals.
Following the awarding of a new kitchen service contract, the medical direction of the Umberto I hospital indicated that meal selection and distribution for hospitalized patients will no longer be handled by the contracted catering staff. Instead, these tasks will be reassigned to existing hospital employees.
The unions described this decision as “non condivisibile” (unshareable), suggesting it is a cost-containment measure. They argue that current staffing levels in several units are insufficient to handle the additional workload without compromising patient care standards. The organizations are calling for a new labor organization plan that aligns staffing with actual hospital needs and bed occupancy.
