ASPCA and local shelters highlight adoptable animals

Animal welfare organizations are highlighting specific animals available for adoption to combat declining adoption numbers. Through the ASPCA’s Right Horse program, Lucky 7 Horse Rescue in Isanti, Minnesota, is featuring Sweet Callie Cat, a 3-year-old Standardbred mare. Originally intended for racing, she is now being rehomed through a Standardbred Rehoming Program as a suitable trail horse.

In Lawrence, the Lawrence Humane Society is spotlighting Chewy, a 5-year-old Labrador mix. Having spent 200 days at the shelter after being surrendered due to an owner's health issues, Chewy is described as a playful dog who responds well to outings and senior living facility visits, though he requires a home without cats.
