Black bear raids bakery stand at Aspen farmers market
A black bear caused a stir at a farmers market in Aspen, Colorado, after approaching a bakery stand to consume bread and baked goods. The incident was captured on video by onlookers as the animal stood on its hind legs to reach products at the Louis Swiss Bakery stand.
Local authorities, including the Aspen Police, intervened to remove the bear, which briefly climbed a tree before leaving the area safely. Experts note that the bear's behavior is driven by hyperphagia, a period before winter hibernation where animals may consume up to 20,000 calories a day to build fat reserves.
Colorado wildlife officials have reported a record number of bear encounters this year. Authorities have issued warnings to citizens, emphasizing that feeding wildlife is strictly prohibited as it disrupts natural behaviors and can lead to animals being euthanized for public safety.
