ASPP/PSP union plans nationwide protests in Portugal
The Association of Police Professionals (ASPP/PSP) has announced it will meet on September 10 to organize a new wave of nationwide protests. The move follows a negotiation impasse with the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI).
Union leadership has criticized the government for failing to provide responses and for unilaterally canceling meetings previously scheduled for 2024. ASPP president Paulo Santos highlighted critical operational issues, stating that police stations are working without adequate resources and lacking patrol cars, which has led to a perceived absence of community policing.
Furthermore, the union has directed criticism toward the National Directorate of the PSP, accusing the leadership of aligning with government errors and failing to prevent strategic decisions that weaken public security operations.
