ASRock Taichi TC-1650T power supply reports connector melting
Reports indicate a potential design flaw in the ASRock Taichi TC-1650T power supply unit regarding its 16-pin (12V-2x6) power connector. Despite being marketed with a 'TempGuard' solution designed to prevent melting through a 105°C NTC thermistor, users have reported instances where the connector melted at the power supply end without triggering the thermal protection.
Technical analysis suggests the failure may stem from the placement of the temperature sensor. While the sensor is intended to monitor heat, it appears to be attached to the ground (GND) pin rather than the +12V power pin. This placement may result in the sensor detecting lower or slower temperature changes, failing to trigger a system shutdown before the plastic housing melts or pins burn.
