Assa Traoré cleared of prosecution after disruptive Assembly protest
On 7 July 2026, activist Assa Traoré and members of her Justice for Adama committee entered the public gallery of the French National Assembly during a debate on a police self‑defence law, shouting slogans and prompting security staff to intervene. Authorities decided she will not be prosecuted, contrasting with a recent case on 16 May where a 75‑year‑old protester was convicted and fined for a similar disturbance.
Assembly president Yaël Braun‑Pivet downplayed the incident, expressed regret over media coverage and announced that anyone who disrupts the gallery will be barred from returning for one year.
