Assala Nasri returns to Damascus for concert after 15-year hiatus
Syrian singer Assala Nasri has arrived in Damascus to prepare for her upcoming concert at Al-Fayhaa Sports Hall on September 17. This event marks her first musical performance in Syria after a hiatus of approximately 15 to 16 years.
The concert, titled ‘Awdat al-Asala’ (The Return of Authenticity), is sponsored by the Syrian Ministry of Culture. The program is expected to feature 14 songs inspired by Syrian musical heritage and folklore, alongside 15 selections from her existing repertoire. Tickets reportedly sold out within two days of being released online.
The return has sparked significant debate on social media, with some individuals filmed tearing down promotional posters in Damascus. In response, the head of the Syrian Artists Syndicate, Mazen al-Natur, welcomed the singer, stating that Syria is proud of her. Additionally, Ahmad Muwaffaq Zaidan, media advisor to the Syrian Presidency, praised her as a symbol of authentic Syrian art.
