Assam and Nagaland MLAs plan joint bamboo plantation
Legislators from Assam and Nagaland have met in Sarupathar to coordinate efforts regarding economic development, cultural exchange, and peace along their shared border. The meeting between Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan and Nagaland MLA Achumbemo Kikon focused on fostering grassroots communication and trust between the two states.
A central component of this cooperation is a large-scale bamboo plantation initiative designed to provide economic opportunities for local communities and address climate change. Plans include the distribution of 500,000 bamboo saplings across the border areas, with 100,000 saplings being provided to Nagaland villages. The initiative is expected to involve a joint plantation programme featuring the chief ministers of both Assam and Nagaland.
