Assam announces Rs 50,000 crore investment plan for Viksit Assam 2047

The Assam government has announced a Rs 50,000 crore investment plan aimed at achieving the ‘Viksit Assam 2047’ goal. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the proposed funding will support various infrastructure projects, including the construction of Anganwadi centres, new stadiums, and upgrades to educational institutions such as schools and universities.

The plan also includes the phased upgradation of 4,000 health sub-centres into hospitals and the establishment of new medical colleges. To support industrial development, the government intends to create land banks in every district, noting that current earmarked land for industrial use is less than 10,000 bighas.

The program is expected to be implemented in phases over seven years starting in 2027, with an annual average investment of approximately Rs 7,140 crore. The state aims to mobilize about Rs 30,000 crore through NABARD, with the remaining balance sourced from state resources and central schemes. Analysts note that the success of the initiative will depend on whether the infrastructure effectively reduces regional inequality and manages climate vulnerability while maintaining fiscal discipline.
