Assam approves Khel Maharan 3.0 to scout U-12 sports talent
The Assam state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved the launch of Khel Maharan 3.0, featuring the Sishu Krida Samaroh. This initiative is designed to identify sporting talent among children under the age of 12 across all 35 districts of Assam during the 2026–27 fiscal year.
Under the program, 120 selected athletes will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 2,000 for two years to support their training and development. The initiative aims to foster grassroots participation and structured athlete growth through residential coaching camps in Guwahati, which will utilize both Indian and foreign coaches. Additionally, high-performing local coaches will be sent to premier national institutes.
The competition structure will progress from the Village Panchayat level to assembly constituencies, districts, and finally to a state-level event in Guwahati. The program is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026.
