Assam bamboo to drive employment and entrepreneurship

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the growing role of bamboo in driving employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development in the state. Marking World Bamboo Day, Sarma noted that bamboo is emerging as a vital resource that creates new pathways for livelihoods across various sectors.

The Chief Minister emphasized that bamboo usage is expanding from everyday consumer products to the development of entirely new industries. This growth is expected to strengthen the rural economy by promoting local skills and providing new income sources for artisans and entrepreneurs. Potential applications include handicrafts, furniture, construction, and food processing.

By encouraging bamboo-based enterprises, the state aims to move beyond the sale of raw materials toward the production of high-value finished goods, effectively linking local expertise with emerging market opportunities.
