Assam Cabinet approves 12% job reservation for former Agniveers

The Assam Cabinet has approved a 12 percent reservation for native former Agniveers in 11 recruitment categories across various state departments. These roles include the police, APRO, SDRF, fire and emergency services, forest guards, and the excise department.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a ‘Green Cess’ on vehicle ownership transfers to fund ongoing afforestation and conservation efforts. This cess will not apply to electric vehicles, CNG vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, or transfers resulting from the death of a vehicle owner.

Other key decisions include a one-time grant of 10 crore rupees for infrastructure development at the Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong and the engagement of Tata Consulting Engineers Limited to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project in Guwahati.
