Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates Chutia Students' Union facility in Guwahati

On January 31, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly built office and hostel of the All Assam Chutia Students' Union at Sadhani Bhawan in Pathar Quarry, Guwahati. The structure was financed through a one‑time grant from the chief minister to the Chutia Development Council and is intended to support the union’s activities and provide accommodation for Chutia students studying in the city.

During the ceremony the chief minister paid floral tribute at the statue of Sati Sadhani and highlighted the historic political and cultural contributions of the Chutia community. He stressed that a community’s modern identity is measured by its educational achievements and urged the union to help young members become doctors, engineers, administrators and professors. Sarma noted that approximately 100 students from minority groups secure MBBS seats each year through Ajmal Foundation coaching, while indigenous students can secure 350‑400 seats when given comparable guidance.

Sarma called for similar educational initiatives for indigenous communities and expressed a five‑year vision of a society that honors its heritage while achieving new progress in education and professional fields.
