Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Keeps Home, Power and Public Works Portfolios

On June 8, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the distribution of ministries among the members of his newly constituted Council of Ministers. He retained direct control of the state’s most critical departments – Home & Political Affairs, Power, both Public Works Departments (Buildings & National Highways and Roads), and Information, Public Relations, Printing & Stationery – as well as any portfolio not assigned to another minister.

Key assignments include Jayanta Mallabaruah receiving Finance, Environment & Forest, and Mines & Minerals; Ashok Singhal taking Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research; Ranj Pegu overseeing School and Higher Education, Tribal Affairs (Plain) and IT; and other ministers assigned to Agriculture, Cultural Affairs, Handloom & Textiles, Food Distribution, Revenue & Disaster Management, Public Health Engineering, Animal Husbandry, Social Justice, Water Resources and the Judicial portfolio. The allocation follows the approval of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and aims to streamline governance and accelerate development in the state.
