Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma expands cabinet to 17 ministers

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya hosted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and members of the state council of ministers at an interaction programme, “Sneha Milan”, at Lok Bhavan in Guwahati. The meeting revived the tradition of holding newly sworn‑in ministers at the governor’s residence after it had been halted during the Covid‑19 pandemic, and the participants exchanged views on public‑interest issues and reaffirmed their commitment to the state’s development.

On June 5, Sarma expanded the Assam cabinet, administering the oath of office and secrecy to 12 legislators who joined the council of ministers, raising its strength to 17. The oath ceremony was held at the Jyoti‑Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir and overseen by Governor Acharya. New ministers include BJP members Ranoj Pegu, Ashok Singhal, Biswajit Daimary, Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Nandini Devi and Sushanta Borgohain, as well as AGP leader Keshab Mahanta. The NDA coalition had earlier secured a record 102 seats in the 126‑member assembly.
