Assam tea auction raises Rs 2.26 crore for Chief Minister’s Relief Fund
A special charity tea auction held at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) raised approximately Rs 2.26 crore for the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The funds are intended for flood relief and to support families affected by flooding in the state. The total amount includes Rs 1.61 crore from the auction itself and an additional Rs 65 lakh contribution from Hemant Bangur.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the event, personally hammering 12 ceremonial lots that raised Rs 99.51 lakh. The auction, organized under the aegis of the Tea Association of India, saw significant participation from major tea buyers, including Society Tea, Wagh Bakri, and Today Tea.
Separately, development initiatives in the region continue to focus on both infrastructure and heritage. In Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu highlighted the progress of the Smart Cities Mission, noting that 42 of 43 projects under the Pasighat Smart City Mission have been completed. Meanwhile, in Assam, the state government is pursuing a ‘Vikas aur Virasat’ approach, aiming to integrate modern infrastructure and tourism development with the preservation of historical landmarks like the Kamakhya Temple and Rang Ghar.
