Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma flags Aadhar over‑registration and backs Dr. Habbe Teron for deputy speaker

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Aadhar enrolment in several districts has exceeded the estimated population, calling it a potential demographic anomaly. He highlighted that some districts show more than 100 % coverage and urged stricter verification to prevent ineligible individuals from receiving identity cards.

The CM also announced that BJP legislator Dr. Habbe Teron, a medical professional elected from the newly created Amri (ST) constituency, will be the coalition’s candidate for the deputy speaker of the Assam Assembly. Sarma praised Teron’s appointment as a step toward stronger representation of tribal and hill‑area communities in the legislature.
