Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says 100% of residents now have Aadhaar cards

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced in Jorhat that every resident of Assam now possesses an Aadhaar identity card. He said the state government has issued a directive that Aadhaar cards will no longer be created for individuals aged 18 or older, while cards for those under 18 will continue to be issued to prevent illegal citizenship.

Sarma also noted that the administration is awaiting a detailed report on a recent transport aircraft incident caused by technical problems before drawing any conclusions. Additionally, he mentioned that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) currently applies only to two northeastern states and will be withdrawn.

The statements were made during a press interaction with journalists on June 13.
