On 26 May 2026, BJP MLA Bhupen Borah – a former Assam Congress president – praised the state government's vision under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying Assam is moving toward a major economic and social transformation. He highlighted the government's pledges on poverty eradication, economic growth, health services and inflation control, noting Sarma's claim that the proportion of people living below the poverty line will fall sharply in the next five years. Borah welcomed the target of building an economy worth 10 lakh crore rupees by 2028‑29 and stressed that industrial development and investment facilitation will create jobs. He also pointed to increased focus on maternal and infant health, and urged that the judiciary remain independent.
