Assam CM honors forest martyrs and highlights Van Durga initiative

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to forest department personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty on National Forest Martyrs Day. He emphasized the state's commitment to strengthening forest security and protecting its natural heritage and wildlife.

Sarama highlighted the importance of the ‘Van Durga’ initiative, which empowers women to play a frontline role in forest protection. These women-led teams are involved in patrolling sensitive areas, monitoring activities, reporting forest crimes, and assisting in wildlife conservation.

Assam maintains an extensive network of protected areas, including five national parks, 20 wildlife sanctuaries, three tiger reserves, and five elephant reserves. The state forest department continues to focus on habitat management, afforestation, and community participation to preserve these ecosystems.
