Assam CM inaugurates Rs 22-crore Naharkatia Multipurpose Sports Complex
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has inaugurated the Naharkatia Multipurpose Sports Complex, a project completed at an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore. Spanning approximately 34 bighas, the facility is designed to enhance regional sports infrastructure and provide local athletes with professional training opportunities.
The complex includes an international-standard cricket ground, a football field with an earthen running track, a swimming pool measuring 25 by 15 metres, a hockey ground, and a gymnasium. The first phase of the project also features a covered spectator gallery and an administrative building.
In a separate initiative, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina scheme, which provides monthly financial assistance to female students in Assam to combat child marriage and reduce school dropout rates. Under this scheme, Higher Secondary students receive Rs 1,000 per month, undergraduate students receive Rs 1,250, and postgraduate students receive Rs 2,500 per month.
