Assam CM meets Union Ministers to coordinate flood relief and infrastructure repair

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has held a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi with Union Ministers to coordinate relief and rehabilitation efforts following devastating floods in the state.

During discussions with Union Minister for Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Centre approved approximately Rs 140 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana scheme and sanctioned the construction of 386,507 new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Additional funds are being directed toward rural development and local self-help groups.

In meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Chief Minister briefed officials on the scale of damage and the ongoing state-led relief operations. The Home Ministry has assured the state of unequivocal support for restoration efforts.

Furthermore, discussions with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari focused on the immediate repair of flood-damaged National Highways and the implementation of evidence-based planning to build more flood-resilient road infrastructure, specifically addressing recurring flash flooding in areas like Jorabat.
