Assam Congress to launch statewide campaign against mining syndicates

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has resolved to launch a statewide mass awareness campaign against coal, stone, and sand syndicates. Chaired by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, the party identified these unregulated mining activities as primary drivers of recent flooding and environmental devastation in Upper Assam.

In addition to targeting mining syndicates, the party passed resolutions opposing the proposed reduction of the eco-sensitive zone around Kaziranga National Park from 10 km to 1 km. They also expressed opposition to the acquisition of indigenous land at Engleng Pathar for transfer to large corporate entities.

The meeting also addressed the party’s relief efforts for flood victims, including rebuilding houses, cleaning public institutions, and providing paddy seedlings to farmers. Organizational discussions included preparations for upcoming Lok Sabha by-elections, autonomous council polls, and municipal elections, as well as concerns regarding the appointment of RSS-affiliated individuals to university leadership positions.
