Assam court sentences man to life imprisonment for 2015 minor rape
A court in Rangia, Assam, has sentenced Ramzan Ali to life imprisonment for the rape of a minor in 2015. The case, which occurred in Dhuhibala village, was tried under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Special Judge Mukul Chetia presided over the District and Sessions Court, which also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict and ordered Rs 1 lakh in compensation for the victim.
In a separate incident in Hosur, an Education Department trainer identified as 52-year-old Jayaram was arrested under the POCSO Act. He is accused of sexually harassing a minor girl and threatening to prevent her and her brother from taking their school board examinations.
