Assam Education Minister denies restrictions on school visits

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has clarified that the state government has not issued any restrictions preventing guardians, citizens, or civil society members from visiting government or provincialised schools. Pegu stated that while visitors are welcome to offer suggestions, they must ensure that regular classes and the academic environment are not disrupted.

The clarification follows reports of alleged visit curbs. The Minister also announced that a show-cause notice has been issued to Nurul Hussain, a Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC), for allegedly circulating an unauthorised and objectionable WhatsApp message. The message reportedly used the name and designation of the Inspector of Schools for the Kamrup Metro district without prior approval. Hussain has been given 24 hours to explain the circumstances of the message to avoid potential disciplinary or administrative action.
