Heavy monsoon rains caused unprecedented flooding in Assam, killing 75 people and displacing more than 332,000 residents across seven districts, including Shivsgar, Charai Deva, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup. The flood surge was attributed to rainfall 400‑500 % above normal in Nagaland and bordering areas.

The Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and police have been conducting rescue operations with boats, while 81 relief camps and 34 distribution centres shelter tens of thousands of evacuees. Over 48,000 hectares of agricultural land and about 88,000 livestock have been lost.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the affected zones, announced a compensation increase to ₹4 lakh per victim and an additional ₹5 lakh for families of the deceased, and urged accelerated relief and rehabilitation efforts.
