Assam floods: Disabled woman rescued in Sivasagar, India

Monsoon floods in Assam's Sivasagar district forced residents to flee rising waters that inundated villages and fields. Among those trapped was Jeiba Begum, a woman with a disability whose home was submerged. After a neighbour alerted the district administration, the One Stop Centre team of the Social Welfare Department entered the flooded area, rescued Jeiba and transferred her to the Kaumudalay NGO, where she is receiving medical care and support.

The flooding also devastated thousands of families across Assam, destroying homes, crops, livestock and essential belongings, and leaving many missing. Officials and relief groups reported urgent needs for food, clean water, shelter and medical assistance, while calls were made for longer‑term flood‑management solutions such as improved embankments and forecasting.
