Assam floods displace millions, celebrities urge aid
The 2026 floods in Assam have affected more than 1.1 million people, submerged around 900 villages and claimed 62 lives. Approximately 700,000 residents were directly impacted and about 300,000 are staying in relief camps.
Indian celebrities Bhumi Pednekar, Adah Sharma, Guru Randhawa, Raashii Khanna and singer Papon have used social media to call for donations and public support. Papon urged worldwide solidarity, while Pednekar and Sharma highlighted the devastation of homes, schools and farms.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal described the situation as “very serious,” and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced phased restoration of electricity in the hardest‑hit districts, including Sivasagar, Jorhat, Charaideo, Dhubri and Bongaigaon.
