Assam forest teams rescue two wild elephants from traps

Forest officials and veterinary teams in Assam have successfully rescued two wild elephants caught in hazardous objects.

In Raimona National Park, a 25-year-old female elephant was found with her trunk caught in a wire snare trap. After several days of tracking, a joint veterinary team chemically immobilised the animal to remove the wire and treat a deep wound on her trunk. The elephant was subsequently released back into the forest under monitoring.

In a separate incident in the Golaghat district, a wild elephant was rescued after a large tyre became stuck around its neck near a tea garden in the Morongi area. Following several hours of effort by the Forest Department, the tyre was removed. Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah commended the frontline teams for their prompt and careful response to both incidents.
