Assam Government honors agricultural innovators with Gaurav Awards

The Assam government has announced the recipients of the Assam Gaurav Awards, recognizing significant contributions to the state's agricultural sector.

Harkanta Basumatary, a farmer from the Goalpara district, has been selected for the prestigious civilian honour. Basumatary is recognized for his pioneering work in palm oil cultivation and his efforts in promoting scientific farming practices. His initiatives, supported by the Goalpara District Agriculture Department, have encouraged widespread adoption of oil palm cultivation across the region.

Additionally, the Padumpathar Agro Organic Producers Company Limited, a farmer producer collective from the Golaghat district, has received the award. The group originated from a small collective of 14 farmers and has expanded into a network of approximately 1,500 members. The company focuses on organic cultivation and supplies produce to international markets, supported by the Central government’s Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region.
