Assam holds healthcare summit to strengthen medical systems

The Assam government's Health and Family Welfare Department and the Medical Education and Research Department organized the ‘Swasthya Chintan Shivir 2026’ at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara. The summit aimed to develop a roadmap for strengthening the state's healthcare system, medical education, research, and innovation ecosystem.

During the inaugural session, Health and Medical Education Minister Ashok Singhal emphasized the necessity of improving healthcare infrastructure, advancing medical research, and integrating modern technology into the health sector. Key discussion topics included digital transformation, the application of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, financial sustainability, and academic excellence.

The session also addressed maternal, newborn, and child health, with a specific focus on strengthening services at the district level. Other priorities included improving patient referral systems, enhancing emergency medical services, and developing a roadmap for a skilled healthcare workforce to ensure more accessible and patient-centric services.
