Assam orders expulsion of Bangladeshi national convicted of illegal entry

The District Magistrate of South Salmara-Mankachar has ordered the expulsion of Mohammad Masood, a 24-year-old Bangladeshi national convicted of illegal entry into India. The order directs Masood to leave Assam within 24 hours via the South Salmara-Mankachar-Dhubri route for lawful deportation or repatriation to Bangladesh.

Masood, a resident of Kurigram district in Bangladesh, was apprehended by Border Security Force personnel on January 13 near the Jordanga Border Out Post. He was subsequently convicted by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate on July 21 for violations involving the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. The charges included unauthorized entry and damage to border fencing.

Following the completion of his prison sentence on August 12, Masood was moved to the Matia Holding Centre in Goalpara. Authorities have been instructed to record his biometric data on the Foreigner Identification Portal and verify if he holds any Indian identification, such as an Aadhaar card or voter registration, to facilitate his removal.
