Assam Police arrest man over death threat against CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Police have arrested a man in the Morigaon district following a social media threat against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The accused, identified as Abdul Mutaleb, a tailor by profession, allegedly posted a comment on Meta platforms during the live broadcast of the Chief Minister’s Independence Day address.

The threat reportedly offered to kill the Chief Minister for ₹1 crore and invited individuals willing to pay the amount to contact the account. The post also allegedly included slogans supporting Pakistan and remarks directed against India.

Investigators traced the suspect by examining a mobile number linked to the social media account, which was registered in Mutaleb’s name. In addition to the primary suspect, police have detained three other individuals for questioning, including the suspect’s father and brother. Authorities are currently analyzing digital evidence to verify the motive and confirm if the posts were made by the accused.
