Assam Police arrest two for allegedly leaking defence secrets to Pakistan

Assam Police's Special Task Force has arrested two individuals in Guwahati for allegedly leaking sensitive Indian defence and security information to Pakistani intelligence operatives.

The first arrest involved Abhishek Kumar Singh, a 31-year-old resident of Bihar, who was apprehended in the Satgaon area following intelligence from the Gajraj Corps. Authorities seized mobile phones, SIM cards, and incriminating documents during the operation. Preliminary investigations suggest Singh was passing secret information regarding the movements of security forces to Pakistani intelligence.

A second individual, identified as Ritesh Kumar Singh, a retired Indian Army jawan who had been working on a contractual basis, has also been taken into custody. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrest of the retired jawan, noting that both suspects were allegedly in contact with Pakistani operatives to transmit strategic data.

Investigators are examining digital materials and smartphones recovered during the arrests to determine the full extent of the espionage network. Central and state agencies are conducting a joint probe to identify if other individuals have been compromised through social media or other channels.
