Assam police shoot suspect during counterfeit Rs 500 notes bust
Police in Guwahati arrested two men, Ajay Biswakarma and Debojit Deori, after stopping a Maruti Swift Dzire near Nagaland House on intelligence that it was carrying counterfeit Indian currency. A search of the vehicle uncovered eight bundles of fake Rs 500 notes valued at about Rs 2.56 lakh, along with a black backpack and other incriminating material, and the vehicle was seized.
During the operation Biswakarma was wounded by a bullet to his right leg and was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Investigators are probing the source of the counterfeit notes and suspect the duo may be linked to a larger fake‑currency syndicate in the region. The injured suspect has alleged that some police personnel were involved in the trade, a claim that remains unverified.
