Assam prepares for historic Durga Puja celebrations

Major Durga Puja celebrations are being prepared in Assam, with historic festivities scheduled to begin on October 16.

In Guwahati, the Guwahati Barowari Puja Committee will mark its 84th year of celebrations at the Youth Hostel premises. The event, which originated in 1942, will follow Vedic rituals and feature a theme of greenery and purple to reflect environmental consciousness. The festivities will include a water fountain, cultural programs, and the distribution of prasad and bhog.

In Dibrugarh, the Amolapatty Rajohuwa Namghar is preparing for its 156th Durga Puja, running from October 16 to October 21. The committee emphasized a commitment to traditional religious practices and prescribed rituals over modern elaborate decorations. A foundation pillar installation ceremony was recently held to mark the start of the preparations.
