Assam PWD engineer arrested for alleged bribery in Dibrugarh
The Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell arrested Mridul Baglari, an Assistant Executive Engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD), in Dibrugarh, Assam. Baglari was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the first installment of a Rs 30,000 bribe.
The bribe was reportedly demanded from Class-1 contractor Rajshekhar Hazarika to facilitate the payment of outstanding bills for completed government projects. Hazarika alleged that while an initial demand of Rs 4 lakh was made, the engineer subsequently insisted on a payment of Rs 1.5 lakh due to the approaching Puja festival.
Following the arrest, officials conducted a search of Baglari's residence, where they recovered a significant amount of cash. Investigators also seized various documents and materials from the PWD office during the operation.
