Assam revises tea incentive scheme to boost exports

The Assam Government has revised the Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives Scheme (ATISIS), 2020, to bolster the state's tea industry and enhance its presence in international markets. The updated policy, notified on September 18, 2026, introduces a Rs 3 per kg incentive for exported Single Origin Assam Quality CTC Tea. This measure is intended to offset costs related to inland transportation, terminal handling, and container repositioning.

A significant provision of the revised scheme is the official recognition of CTC tea sold through the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) as ‘Quality CTC Tea’ for export incentive purposes. This is expected to strengthen the market position of auction-linked tea.

Additional updates to the scheme include: • Increasing the production subsidy for Orthodox and Speciality Tea from Rs 10 per kg to Rs 15 per kg. • Raising the maximum annual claim per unit or garden to Rs 1 crore. • Including Matcha Tea under the scheme. • Enhancing working capital interest subvention from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.

The revised scheme has been extended through March 31, 2031.
