Assam Swearing‑In Ceremony Security Breach Captures Man with Live Bullets

Security forces in Guwahati detained a man at the entrance of the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara after discovering several live rounds on him. No firearm or other weapon was found. The individual was taken to Basistha police station for questioning while investigators examined how the ammunition bypassed the venue’s security checks.

The incident occurred moments before Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was to administer the oath to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his second term. Despite the breach, the swearing‑in ceremony proceeded under heightened security, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders in attendance. Police have launched a probe, reviewing CCTV footage and reviewing security protocols.

The event highlights concerns over safety at high‑profile political gatherings in India, prompting a review of entry‑point screening procedures.
