Assam sweeps team golds at North East Zone badminton championship

Assam dominated the Yonex-Sunrise North East Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship 2026, winning all four gold medals in the team events. The Assam men’s team defeated Manipur 3-1, while the women’s team secured a 3-0 victory over Mizoram. In the junior categories, Assam’s boys’ team beat Arunachal Pradesh 2-0, and the girls’ team defeated Mizoram 2-1. These victories qualify the Assam men’s and women’s teams for the 2027 National Games in Meghalaya.

Host state Meghalaya concluded its team event run in the semifinals, securing bronze medals across the categories reached. Notable performances included Elsarica Umdor in women’s singles and Netania T Tariang in the Under-19 girls’ singles. The tournament, held at the JN Indoor Stadium, serves as preparation for the upcoming 39th National Games.
